It indeed is a great moment and day for Sarova Hotels, Resorts & Game Lodges, yet again; Sarova Hotels has held the mantle and flew Kenya’s flag high at the inaugural second East African CSR Awards 2012. We were crowned the winner in the category of “Best Work Place Practice” with our entry “Sarova Health Care Programme”. Our entry highlighted the objective of this project to provide employees of Sarova Hotels with a comprehensive health care programme that promotes the health and wellbeing of our workforce. Our health care programme is aimed at changing the method to employee’s health from a reactive approach to a holistic and proactive approach so as to reduce the prevalence of illness in the organization.
This prestigious VIP awards ceremony, which took place at the HYATT Kilimanjaro Hotel in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, once again gave formal recognition of outstanding and world-class CSR initiatives by East African companies. The awards showcased an East African private sector that has succeeded economically, whilst safeguarding environmental and social values. The ceremony was opened by the Honourable Nimrod Mkono M.P., Chairman of Bank M, followed by a speech from Patrick Obath, Director of the EABC and a member of the esteemed judging panel.
As the awards have grown in status over the years, they have come to represent the excellent social and economic progress being demonstrated by East African corporates. The high-level audience included notaries such as the Zambian High Commissioner to Tanzania H.E. Judith Kapijimpanga, H.E Ambassador Filiberto Ceriani Sebregondi from the European Union and senior executives of shortlisted companies including Coca-Cola, Vodacom Tanzania, British American Tobacco, Tullow Oil and Unilever Tea Kenya.
